Radiant Skin Health Claims in Tanning Ads

A “radiant” complexion can be created by lighting, skincare, make-up or editing. The adjective does not demonstrate a benefit to skin health from a marketed peptide.

Colour and health are different outcomes

A claim that a product improves skin condition would need a specified measure, a suitable comparison and evidence for the exact formulation. A darker-looking photograph cannot establish it.

Check product evidence

Cancer Research UK says marketed Melanotan products have not been tested for safety, quality or effectiveness. A seller’s review or purity percentage is not independent verification.

Do not relax sun precautions

The NHS says a tan does not protect against the harmful effects of the sun. Our skin-health-claims guide covers why pigment and protection should be discussed separately.
